A facelift surgery smooths creases and folds and addresses the underlying muscles and supportive tissues of the forehead, cheeks, jawline, and neck and restores them to a more youthful position. This surgery can be done on it's own, or paired with a neck lift, or just a mid facelift depending on your desired aesthetic wants.

Dr. Bloom’s Facelift Procedure

According to Dr. Bloom, a facelift is the most rejuvenating procedure performed at Bloom Facial Plastic Surgery. He customizes every facelift to meet each patient’s needs and desired outcomes, and specializes in the deep plane face technique, combined with a neck lift. This method allows for the best results in the most natural way. The focus of the procedure is on the release of the facial retaining ligaments, allowing the face to be resuspended without looking pulled, stretched, or unnatural.

He essentially takes the muscle layer, releases it from its underlying attachments to the bone and the skin, and then resuspends it to a higher, more youthful position.

Dr. Bloom regularly performs deep plane face and neck lift procedures at a hospital in the safest and most effective manner. He has been performing facelifts in Philadelphia for over 10 years, and now teaches it to other facial plastic surgeons.

Am I a candidate for facelift surgery?

Good candidates for facelift surgery in Philadelphia are having the procedure done to please themselves, not others.

  • Realistic in their goals and expectations
  • A more youthful appearance
  • You should be a non-smoker
  • In good mental and physical health
  • Good skin elasticity at the time of your facelift in Philadelphia

What other procedures can be done with a facelift?

Dr. Bloom most frequently performs eyelid rejuvenation surgery or fat grafting to compliment the results of a deep plane facelift in Philadelphia. Further rejuvenation with eyelid surgery helps to brighten the face. In patients who are lacking facial volume, the addition of fat grafting adds healthy-looking volume to the face. The goal of every facelift procedure is to achieve an improved, rejuvenated, natural-looking appearance.

What to expect during your consultation

Before your facelift, you will meet with Dr. Bloom to go over your areas of concern and your personal aesthetic goals. During this initial meeting, it’s Dr. Bloom’s objective to understand exactly what you want and to explain in detail how he can provide improvement. He will show you examples of other facelift patients with the same type of facial aging that you have.

He will also show you before and after photos of patients at all stages of the recovery process so that you can plan your life around the downtime you may need. He will take you step-by-step through the procedure and recovery process so that you know exactly what to expect. Your consultation with Dr. Bloom is the perfect time to ask any questions or bring up any concerns you may have. In addition, when you choose to undergo a facelift in Bryn Mawr with Dr. Bloom, you will have direct contact with him.

Facelift Recovery

Facelift recovery time varies from patient to patient and depends on the extent of the surgery and if other procedures are being performed, but in general, recovery time for a facelift and neck lift is around two weeks.

You can expect considerable bruising and swelling at the one-week mark, but can typically be seen by others at about two weeks with some makeup along the incision lines. By three weeks, you should be able to return to regular life. The key to getting the very best results is to follow Dr. Bloom’s post-operative instructions. With proper post-surgery care, your facelift results can last up to 10 years or more.

Professional journal publications

“I love seeing how rejuvenating a facelift is to the lower face, jawline, and neck. The beauty is that patients can really look 10-20 years younger, and a better version of themselves.”

Facelift FAQs:

What type of anesthesia is used during a facelift?

Dr. Bloom performs facelift surgery in Philadelphia at a hospital with a board- certified anesthesiologist who will carefully monitor you throughout the surgery.

I’m worried about looking pulled or unnatural. Why do so many people look this way after surgery?

Dr. Bloom’s facelift procedure is a surgery of release and resuspension. By releasing the facial ligaments where the face is tethered down, the facial muscle system is what is lifted, and takes the tension off all of the incision lines. The skin is excised and tailored, rather than pulled tight. This creates a look that is rejuvenated and natural, not pulled or overdone. Dr. Bloom will also show you what his previous facelift patients look like. You will be able to see the type of results he achieves.

What about dermal fillers?

Injectable fillers and botulinum toxins such as Botox® are effective treatments for mild to moderate wrinkles and volume loss, but they are not a replacement for facelift surgery. Dermal fillers are great to temporarily camouflage signs of aging, but to address more severe sagging skin and wrinkles, a facelift is the ideal option.

How much does a facelift cost at Bloom Facial Plastic Surgery?

A face and neck lift ranges between $12,000-$15,000 or Dr. Shtraks and $22,000-$40,000 for Dr. Bloom. This doesn’t include of anesthesia, facility charges, and other ancillary fees.
