What is medical-grade skincare?

Medical-grade skincare products can only be purchased through a physician. This is because before you buy the products, you must be educated on exactly how to use them in order to get the best results. These products have all been clinically tested, proven, and approved by medical professionals, and are much more powerful than drugstore skincare products. For individuals who have problematic skin or who want the best anti-aging skincare products available, medical-grade skincare is the very best option. These products are also often very helpful during recovery from one of our procedures.

Medical-grade skincare vs. drugstore skincare

Skincare products that are available at a drugstore contain active ingredients; they just don’t usually contain enough of them to make a big difference. The reason that drugstore skincare products have a much lower amount of active ingredients is because too many people would use them incorrectly, and would end up with irritated skin. Medical-grade skincare uses the right amount of ingredients to create an actual change within the skin, whereas drugstore skincare products only include a tiny amount of the active ingredient so that they can advertise that it’s in there — even though the amount is so low that you’ll likely not see any benefit from it. In addition, drugstore skincare products are regulated by the FDA, which means they can’t reach beyond the top layer of the skin. This is where medical-grade skincare has a huge advantage. Especially for those who have skin conditions such as acne or dryness, it’s important to get enough of the active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid, phosphatidylserine, and salicylic acids, but it’s just as important to understand how to effectively use these ingredients. This is where our aesthetic team can help. We will be happy to recommend the best products for you while also explaining why they’re the best for you.

Skinuva

We’re excited to offer Skinuva™ Scar and Skinuva Brite. Skinuva Scar is an innovative product made with growth factors, which help larger scars (from procedures such as a facelift) heal remarkably well, both softening and flattening the scar tissue.

Skinuva Brite, also made with growth factors, effectively decreases the appearance of hyperpigmentation including melasma, under-eye hyperpigmentation, and sunspots. These products were developed by physicians and have been clinically tested, and get truly excellent results.

Types of medical-grade skincare we offer at Bloom Facial Plastic Surgery

ISDIN

As a leading company in European dermocosmetics, ISDIN has now expanded its reach all over the world. It’s a good thing too — because beauty experts and patients everywhere are labelling them a “must-have” brand. Fueled by exceptional feedback and beautiful results, ISDIN focuses on anti-aging and achieving the healthiest, most radiant skin possible.

eltaMD

eltaMD® made a splash with its lightweight, non-greasy, dermatologist-approved, acne-fighting sunscreen — so much so, in fact, that it became a number-one selling sunscreen on the market. However, even though we all love eltaMD’s incredible sunscreen, they also offer a variety of other incredible products such as moisturizers, toners, cleansers, and serums.

PCA skin

Beloved by skincare experts and users alike, PCA skin® offers an extensive range of products that are made from the best active ingredients, while considering animal safety and our environment. For example, no PCA skin products are tested on animals, they don’t contain added dyes or fragrances, and their packaging is recyclable.

Besides this, they offer something for any skin type or skin issue. Founded by an aesthetician and developed by a dermatologist, PCA has the vision of “improving people’s lives by providing results-oriented skincare solutions that are backed by science for the health of your unique skin.”

Bloom Power Peel

Dr. Jason Bloom’s own Bloom Power Peel is the go-to chemical peel for pigmentation and melasma — also known as the “pregnancy mask” because it’s common in pregnant women. Two ingredients in the Bloom Power Peel, retinoid and arbutin, penetrate the skin and treat discoloration while also speeding up the cell turnover rate. Treatment with the Bloom Power Peel takes approximately 20 minutes, and involves a painless in-office application and an at-home regimen. The peel is left on for 2-8 hours, depending on what your aesthetician recommends, and you will then follow a strict at-home regimen with a take-home kit that’s included with the peel. After you wash the peel off, you’ll have a slight sunburn sensation and then peeling and redness for 7-10 days. Although the Bloom Power Peel is great for Fitzpatrick skin types 1-6, we do not recommend it for patients with active cold sores or warts; skin with open wounds; sunburned skin; pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those who have been on Accutane within the past year.

ALASTIN Skincare

ALASTIN® Skincare provides both a pre- and post-procedure collection of products, as well as a daily skincare collection. This clinically tested cruelty-free, paraben-free, and gluten-free brand is scientifically proven to prepare the skin for procedures and decrease downtime.

As for their daily skincare collection, ALASTIN has won the hearts of thousands for their effective firming creams, moisturizers, protective sunscreen, and much more.

ALASTIN’s TriHex Technology® gets rid of old, damaged collagen and elastin, helps the skin build new collagen and elastin, and then replenishes that new collagen and elastin.
