Sculptra is used to provide facial volume to combat the loss of collagen and bone that can happen as we get older. Made with biodegradable and biocompatible poly-L-lactic acid and water, Sculptra delivers natural-looking, long-lasting volumizing results. Sculptra is usually performed in a series of 2-3 treatments spaced several months apart for best results.

What can Sculptra do?

  • Improve skin elasticity and texture
  • Add volume to sunken cheeks and temples
  • Stimulate new collagen production
  • Soften overly prominent cheekbones
  • Restore bone structure
  • Define the jawline
  • Soften nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Rejuvenate the face for a more youthful appearance

Who is a good candidate for Sculptra?

If you’re in the Bryn Mawr and Philadelphia area and you’re interested in adding natural-looking volume to your face, Sculptra may be the perfect treatment for you. Those who make the best candidates for Sculptra are those who:

  • Want to add youthful plumpness to their skin
  • Are in their 30s and 40s
  • Do not have severe loss of collagen and bone
  • Are post-menopausal women
  • Are interested in preventing future signs of aging
  • Are not expecting Sculptra to treat wrinkles, under-eye bags, or thin lips

Sculptra treatment details

As with any cosmetic injectable treatment, your skin will be cleansed and possibly numbed (if needed) before Sculptra is administered. The injections will be performed by our injectable expert nurse. Once the injections are complete, the area may be massaged to help the product work and spread the way it’s supposed to.

Treatment time is approximately 20 minutes, and if you require more than one Sculptra session the appointments will be scheduled 6-8 weeks apart.

Side effects and results

Sculptra doesn’t require any downtime, but some patients do have some mild swelling after treatment. If this happens, the swelling typically subsides in 1-3 days. There may also be some redness, tenderness, and/or bruising where the injections were given, but these side effects are also very mild and disappear within 1-3 days. Although results are not visible immediately, improvements will gradually look better and better over time, usually over the course of about two months. The outcome may last for up to two years or more after several treatments.

Sculptra FAQ

Is Sculptra a dermal filler?

While Sculptra is frequently referred to as a dermal filler, it’s actually different than hyaluronic fillers because it kick-starts the production of collagen (which most fillers don’t do) and the results are gradual instead of immediate. It is also not to be used to treat wrinkles or to augment the lips, which many other fillers do.
