All about Qwo

Ready to get rid of that cellulite and show off a little more skin? Qwo is the newest and least invasive cellulite treatment yet. It works by simple injections, and improvement can be seen in as little as three weeks. Qwo targets collagen types 1 and 3 (the type of collagen you don’t want), breaking it down to achieve a smoother skin surface. Qwo is a collagenase clostridium histolyticum (CCH) treatment, which means it’s made from enzymes that break down collagen. Although Qwo is a newer treatment, CCH has already been used for years in the medical industry for different needs. This ensures its safety.

What causes cellulite?

Cellulite is a complex, multifactorial process that affects 80% of women regardless of their age, race, weight, and body type. It is characterized by rippled, dimpled skin that bothers many who have it, and it’s extremely difficult to treat with at-home products.

This condition develops when fat gets trapped by fibrous septae that are made of type 1 and 3 collagen. So what causes cellulite? The most common culprits seem to be genetics and a poor diet, although other factors can also play a role, including hormonal changes, smoking, not exercising, weight fluctuations, and simple aging.

Treatment, downtime, and results

Before your Qwo treatment, your skin will be cleansed, prepped, and marked to help guide your aesthetician. Once you’re ready, the injections will be administered.

Treatment time is about 10-15 minutes for the injections themselves. When Qwo injected, its enzymes work together to break the fibrous bands that are pulling down on the skin. This releases the bands, which gives the affected skin a smoother, less dimpled appearance.

Qwo patients should expect considerable bruising after treatment. This is a normal part of the process, but is good to note. You may also experience tenderness in the treated area which can be managed with over-the-counter medications, and other side effects may include areas of hardness, itching, redness, discoloration, swelling, and warmth in the treatment area.

It’s also important to note that results aren’t instant with Qwo. Some patients see results as early as three weeks, but for others it takes longer. The treatment takes place in about three cycles that are spaced 3-4 weeks apart, and the results progress over this time. Side effects also become less and less noticeable after each consecutive session.

Who is a good candidate for Qwo?

Anyone who wants to improve the appearance of cellulite is a great candidate for Qwo, as long as they:

  • Are not allergic to Qwo’s ingredients
  • Are not allergic to collagenase
  • Don’t have an active infection in the area
  • Do not have any sort of bleeding problem
  • Are not pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to breastfeed
